Dinner Fail. Anniversary Win!

Robert Burns once wrote,

The best laid schemes o’ mice an’ men
    Gang aft agley,
An’ lea’e us nought but grief an’ pain,
    For promis’d joy!

If you’ve ever taken an English class, you know that his point is that plans often get thwarted. Such was the case with tonight’s dinner plan. Our veggie CSA gave us a tub of homemade pesto, a surprising and rare treat. We decided we’d make a simple pesto & bacon pasta dish. Upon starting dinner, we realized that we had no pasta to speak of. Agley indeed!

Instead we had bacon pesto sandwiches. Delicious, but not photogenic. So just like we subbed sandwiches for pasta, I’ll sub produce pictures for dinner pictures.

I love photographing fall vegetables. The pictures remind me of still-life paintings, especially when the light is good.

See? Exactly the same. ;) (Photo of Luis Melendez’s still life from Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.)

Although our dinner plans failed, our anniversary plans didn’t. Yesterday was our 6 year anniversary (!). I got Trent a gift certificate for a cooking class, and he got me…

Proof that we’ve been together for 6 years? I was this close to getting him the exact same thing.
